Since the end of 19th Century the Principality of Monaco puts a special value on culture and education.
Since 1879 the opera of Monte Carlo is in the stable Garnier. Artists from the whole world arise on this stage. Francois Blanc build a concert hall in the famous Casino, which was opened by Sarah Bernhardt in a record time of 6 months.

The prestige and the gloss of this opera let it still rival against all international world-well-known opera houses. Numerous first performances took place on this stage.

Also the 1856 created Philharmoni orchestra plays an important role in the international music scene and has the privilege to be directed by world-well-known orchestra bosses such as Toscanini, Mitropoulos, Walter, Richard Strauss, de Sabata, Bernstein, Sawallisch, Kondrachine, Mehta, Kubelik, Sir George Solti, Maazel.....

Another highlight is the ballet of Monte Carlo, which was desired by princess Grace of Monaco and was founded by her daughter princess Caroline of Hannover.

Numerous active institutions were brought into being, like the Fondation Prince Pierre, which assigns a literature -, music- and art-price each year, the theatre Princesse Grace and the "Printemps des Arts".
